Nulla a che fare con una nota canzone di una band inglese. Il titolo quole riagganciarsi all’indice di ARMS, alias Arms Index, un indice chiamato anche Short Term Trading Index, il che lo va a catalogare come un indicatore da trading. L’ARMS Index va a fondere insieme due indicatori: advance/decline index e advance volume /decline volume index.

Also known as the TRIN or Short-Term TRading INdex, the Arms Index is a breadth indicator developed by Richard W. Arms in 1967. The index is calculated by dividing the AD Ratio by the AD Volume Ratio. Typically, these breadth statistics are derived from NYSE or Nasdaq data, but the Arms Index can be calculated using breadth statistics from other indices such as the S&P 500 or Nasdaq 100. Because it acts as an oscillator, the indicator is often used to identify short-term overbought and oversold situations. A moving average is often applied to smooth the data. Dopo questa piccola parentesi, andiamo al dunque. Perché diavolo vi cito l’ARMS Index? Perché quanto è accaduto venerdì ha del singolare. Guardate il grafico qui sotto.

NYSE con ARMS Index

Per farla breve, il TRIN o ARMS Index si muove in modo inverso al mercato. L’incredibile “spike” di venerdì significa, dal punto di vista teorico, il raggiungimento di un minimo da cui ripartire quantomeno per un rimbalzo.

Malgrado uno scenario non certo allegro, questo incitatore ci lancia un “alert” che non è da sottovalutare, legato non a fattori tecnici puri, tipo l’RSI, ma a comportamenti di volumi e numeri di mercato, come i volumi.
