Banche USA: sistema finanziario ancora in grande difficoltà

Aumentano le banche fallite (157 nel 2010) e peggiora il numero degli istituti in difficoltà. I problemi, come vedete, sono tutt’altro che finiti.
Banche. Sempre loro. Cruciali e fondamentali. Non per niente sono coccolate, salvare, aiutate da Stati e Banche Centrali. Tutti sono coscienti del fatto che le banche sono essenziali per l’economia e il commercio. Peccato poi che vengano a generarsi situazioni che rasentano la criminalità organizzata… Ma questa è un’altra storia…
Intanto però vorrei tranquillizzare tutti quelli che temevano una frenata dalle “emozioni default” soprattutto delle banche USA. Tranquilli! La situazione non si è affatto normalizzata, anzi! Sempre peggio!

The FDIC did not release its enforcement actions for November 2010 nor did they close any institutions this week, which contributed to a quiet week for the Unofficial Problem Bank List. There were three removals and two additions this week leaving the list at 919 institutions with assets of $407.9 billion.
Apperò! Ci sono 919 banche USA che stanno rischiano di chiudere i battenti! Mica da ridere! E nell’anno della ripresa, i fallimenti delle banche USA non sono diminuiti ma sono aumentati. Infatti molto probabilmente la FDIC non farà fallire altre banche se non ad inizio 2011. Quindi per quest’anno i numeri dovrebbero essere definitivi. Ma sono già numeri notevoli. Infatti, se nel 2009 sono fallite in Usa 140 banche, nel 2010 le banche fallite sono 157.

A queste banche che hanno chiuso i battenti nel 2010, andiamo ad aggiungere le 919 con gravi problemi. Bene, direi che il sistema finanziario USA e le banche di piccola e media dimensione sono ancora in alto mare, o forse sbaglio?
E poi…non dimentichiamo mai che molte banche sono state invece salvate. Secondo fonti governative, il numero di queste banche per le quali c’è stato il bail out, è pari a 100.
Nearly 100 U.S. banks that got bailout funds from the federal government show signs they are in jeopardy of failing.
The total, based on an analysis of third-quarter financial results by The Wall Street Journal, is up from 86 in the second quarter, reflecting eroding capital levels, a pileup of bad loans and warnings from regulators. The 98 banks in shaky condition got more than $4.2 billion in infusions from the Treasury Department under the Troubled Asset Relief Program.
When TARP was created in the heat of the financial crisis, government officials said it would help only healthy banks. The depth of today’s problems for some of the institutions, however, suggests that a number of them were in parlous shape from the beginning.
Seven TARP recipients have already failed, resulting in more than $2.7 billion in lost TARP funds. Most of the troubled TARP recipients are small, plagued by wayward lending programs from which they might not recover. The median size of the 98 banks was $439 million in assets as of Sept. 30. The median TARP infusion for each was $10 million, federal filings show.
“We certainly understand and recognize that some of the smaller institutions are experiencing stress,” said David Miller, chief investment officer at the Treasury Department’s Office of Financial Stability, which runs TARP. He noted that Congress mandated that banks of all sizes be eligible for TARP, adding that the government’s TARP investment as a whole is performing well. (Source: WSJ)
Beh… Non c’è che dire. Mi risulta quantomeno evidente che la situazione non sia poi così rosea. Per chiudere questo interessante e simpatico grafico interattivo. Secondo me rende bene l’idea del colabrodo che è il sistema finanziario made in USA e le relative banche USA. Buttate un occhio a stati come Florida, Illinois, California, New York…

Però il tuo recente post sulla situazione di qualche banca italica esposta in maniera enorme alla leva finanziaria (tra le prime in assoluto in Europa…) ha fatto venire un po’ di sudori freddi a diversi utenti del blog (tra cui il sottoscritto).
Sarebbe utile far seguito a quell’articolo davvero inquietante, con qualche dato di conferma di questa situazione di esagerata esposizione.
In America falliscono banche come funghi, ma non vorrei che qualcosa cominciasse a crollare anche qui da noi. E, in tal caso, sarebbe spiacevole esserne coinvolti.. 😕 🙁

meno male che avevi detto che, per qualche giorno, avevi bisogno….. di tirare i remi in barca e di staccare la spina. In questi giorni hai postato argomenti uno dietro l’altro e tutti interessantissimi (as usual !!!).

Prima volta da luglio 2008 sotto 400mila Washington, 30 dic – Le richieste iniziali di sussidi di disoccupazione negli Stati Uniti sono calate nella settimana terminata il 25 di dicembre di 34mila unita’ a quota 388.000.
